The hurtful practice referring to a person by the name they were referred to previously.

On September 16th, 2014, a user named “Canola Yogurt” posted the protological definition on well-known scholarly journal UrbanDictionary, which was picked up by crazyperson rag “The Establishment” magazine and syndicated in the Huffington Post. On August 13th 2018, actress Laverne Cox tweeted it was “an act of violence”. On September 25th 2018, Twitter updated their rules and “policies” to include it, giving the term wider coverage.
