Misgender

Literature, 1995

Objectively recognising which of two forms another Homo sapiens is.

Like all “trans” terminology, the exact source is difficult to pinpoint (although we can safely say the age will be wildly exaggerated), however the term appears to have emerged in a Usenet post (alt.support.srs) in 1999. Although originally a term in literature denoting inaccurate grammar, the mainstream debate surrounding fines for such a “violent act” came to the fore with the inclusion of “gender identity” and “gender expression” into anti-discrimination laws in several countries.
